Amethyst is the February (Aquarius) birthstone and stone used to celebrate the 6th wedding anniversary. Ancient Egyptians used amethyst in jewelry and breastplates for its protective powers. Judeans believed this birthstone enabled excellent judgement. In many countries amethyst amulets were held to protect houses from theft. Crusaders wore amethyst in the belief it would avert diseases encountered in new lands. This birthstone was used in episcopal rings and was considered to have influence of holiness and peace.

Both March and September birthstone, jade is considered a powerful talisman throughout the world. Long associated with the heart chakra, wisdom and the afterlife, it is also used to celebrate the 12th wedding anniversary. A protective stone, Jade is thought to protect from harm and enable harmony, good luck and friendship.

Pearl is the June birthstone and a stone linked to purity, luck and wealth, the tears of the gods directly drawn from the moon. Some believe pearls will purify the body and benefit the immune system. Pearls are used to celebrate both the 1st and 30th wedding anniversaries. Pearls, like jade, were sometimes placed in the mouths of the dead.


Nominated Charity

Reiver Vintage is raising awareness of the work of Journey Enterprises, a small north east charity supporting adults with complex learning disability to lead active, inclusive and fulfilling lives.

The Charity has four day centres which help people with learning disability learn life and work skills. These are in Blyth and Hexham (Northumberland), Bishop Auckland (County Durham) and Newcastle upon Tyne. The Day Centres host 160 adults weekly who are aged between 18 and 80 years.
